The Brief

In 1981, chalk slogans in uppercase letters appeared in Botosani, Romania, demanding freedom and improvements. Teenager Mugur Calinescu was responsible; his case documented by Romanian secret police. Theatre director Gianina Carbunariu created a documentary play from this material. Director Jude presents the play alongside archival Romanian TV footage, creating a montage that exposes the Ceausescu regime's surveillance state through its authorized entertainment.
